Lemon-Lime

As the days heat up and the pastel-hued buds turn into bright, full-bodied blooms, why not take a cue from a margarita (or a can of Sierra Mist if you're a minor)? That's right, fluorescent shades of light yellow and green are super hot--literally and figuratively--right now. They'll be in stores just as much this summer as Ke$ha was on the radio last summer, as ever-present on magazine pages as Lindsay Lohan is in jail. Completely brazen and just as unapologetic, these colors will help you dive into your summer plans by providing your wardrobe with much-needed pops of interest. They'll also go perfectly with that lime floating in your Corona. But I'm not suggesting anything...

Complementary, My Dear Watson

[Apparently while Jessica Alba has been absent from movie-making (um, what was the last film she was in?), she's been learning how to expertly add color to her wardrobe in the most fun way.]

As a Chicago girl, I grew up carefully avoiding pairing the colors blue and orange; they're the official hues of the Bears football team, so wearing the color combo either signified an impending game or a sports spirit day. But spring's fresh juxtaposition of cool aqua and playful orange has me rethinking this hang-up. As recently seen on stars like Jessica Alba and Emmy Rossum, the unlikely collaboration just works, allowing each color to pop to its fullest. But blue and orange are complementary colors (they're across from each other on a basic color wheel) so the collaboration actually makes sense both scientifically and artistically. And sartorially too, since whether you top persimmon pants with a sky blue sweater or just swipe on tangerine lipgloss to flatter your cornflower dress, you're guaranteed to look more like a fashionista on E! than a Bears fangirl on ESPN.

The Blue-Green In Between

As the days grow longer and colors shine more brightly, turquoise is beginning to turn up everywhere. This frisky cross between blue and green that so beguilingly mimics ocean hues is taking center stage this season. It can be displayed in a bold pop or in a misty wash, in hints or in abundance. But regardless of the form it's presented in, one thing about the color turquoise remains constant: it's indubitably happy.

Lust List: Pink & Red

[It's Valentine's Day, but this is a different kind of lust.]

This may come as a surprise considering I have a blog about style, but I've never considered myself much of a girlie-girl. My sense of humor is far from ladylike, and I'd much rather watch "Family Guy" than "One Tree Hill." Sure, I love dresses and makeup, but clothing obsession is about the extent of my girlishness. Oh, and there's also my current love affair with the color pink. I've always been a secret fan of the sweet hue, but the recent shade-mixing trend (pairing non-matching shades of one color, seen here) has undoubtedly amplified this fondness. Maybe it's just the intoxication from today's holiday speaking, but I'm ready to don powder pink, fuchsia, coral, and even red...all at once.
So I spent some quality time at net-a-porter.com, and between periods of staring at my computer screen hoping that someday I can purchase even just one of the beautiful designer duds, I managed to select my favorite pink-y pieces. Because, hey, a girl can dream. Don't call me a changed woman, though--I will not watch "The Vampire Diaries" with you no matter how much you pay me.
